Mission Trips Summer 2007


There are a variety of mission trips available for youth in the Diocese of Georgia. For youth who are in high school there is a trip planned for July 6-12 Mobile, Alabama. For those of you who attended the mission trip last summer, we will be continuing the work we did last year. There is still much work to be done to bring the Gulf Coast back to the standards that preceeded the Hurricanes of 2005. The cost of this trip is $265.00. This fee includes all food, transportation and other expences.


For high school students who are looking for a more than just a mission trip, PYE is offered. PYE is "Provincial Youth Event". This event takes place once every 3 years. It includes 20 diocese in nine south east states. 10 people from each of these dioceses will meet in Bay St. Louis, Misissippi for fun fellowship, worship, playing, and oh yeah... mission work. The cost of this trip is $350.00 which includes all food and transportation. PYE will take place on July 17-22. Registration will close on April 20th.

If you are looking for a trip for middle schoolers, There is a trip to Albany, GA. St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Albany, GA will be sponsoring and underwriting the cost of this trip. It will take place July 18 - 22. This trip is for youth and adults from ages 12 and up. It is a great opprtunity for youth and parents to work together. The work projects will be sponsored by Habitat for Humanity. The cost of this trip is $75.00. High School Work Weekend "Mission: Honey Creek"

On Friday, March 2nd youth from around the diocese will be meeting at Honey Creek to begin work projects to improve our diocesan camp and conference center: Honey Creek. Each year the youth of our diocese have come together at Honey Creek to paint, clean, tile, clear trails, and do many other projects. In 2005 the floor in the lobby was tiled as well as clearing new walking trails through the wooded areas of the property. Last year we did much work in the dorms. We painted, put up towel bars, changed the curtains, and reupholstered the furniture in the common rooms.

Anyone in grades 9-12 are welcome to take part in this event of service. Adults (21 and over) are also welcome to help in the work, play and chaperoning. The event begins with dinner at 6:30 Friday evening March 2nd and ends after lunch on Sunday, March 4th. You can register by mail, fax or email. The fee for the weekend is $75.00 which includes two nights and 6 meals. You will need to bring your own bed linens and toiletries. Youth Commission Retreat and Planning Weekend


The Diocesan Youth Commission met this past week at the Sandbach's Lake House to plan future events for the Youth Programs. We invite you to join us for the Winter Blast weekend for students in grades 9 - college. The theme of the weekend is "Update your Pod with the Sound of God." The weekend is designed to find meaning in music. We will be listening to current secular music and relating the lyrics to the Bible. We will also participate in a U2 Eucharist.
Date: December 15-17, 2006
Arrival: Friday, December 15 6-8 PM (dinner is served at 6:45PM)
Depart: Sunday, December 17 12:30 PM (after lunch)
Ages: 9th grade - college (Adults are welcome to chaperone)
Cost: $70.00 if registered by Dec. 1, 2006; $75.00 if registered after Dec. 1, 2006

Acolyte and Youth Leadership Festival

The Acolyte and Youth Leadership Festival will be held at Honey Creek on October 7-8, 2006. This is an oportunity for youth in grades 5 - 12 to attend workshops on various leadership rolls in the church. Workshops will be offered for Acolyting, Altar Guild, Leading Worship, Eucharisic Minister Training, Etc. A closing service on Sunday, October 8, 2006 will give the youth an oportunity to use the skills learned in the workshops. The closing service will be held at 10:30AM in the Chapel of Our Savior at Honey Creek. All are welcome to attend the service.

Happening # 77

The Happening Steering Committee met on Saturday, May 6th to select the staff for Happening # 77 to be held at Honey Creek on August 4 -6, 2006. Happening is a weekend for youth in grades 10 - 12. During a Happening weekend, participants experience the love of Christ as shown through prayer, worship, and the ministry of peers, clergy, and lay adults. It is a program to enhance Christian formation in youth. The fee for the weekend is $75.00 (scholarship assistance is available). Applications are available in most of the Episcopal churches as well as the Diocesan House. Gulf Coast Mission Trip

On July 8 a group of 50 youth and 16 adults from the diocese of Georgia will meet to depart for our diocesan youth mission trip to the Gulf Coast. We will be staying in Mobile, Alabama from July 8-15, 2006. There is still plenty of work to be done to clean and repair homes, churches, and other structures from hurricane damage. We will be staying at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Mobile and working through Southeast Volunteers of America. Please support us through prayer during this time of preparation.
